We’ve just embarked on our epic holiday adventure: a journey of 7 location changes in 14 days, at least 6 parties, and gifts for our whole family. Packing for a trip like this could get out of hand very quickly. Luckily this is the fourth trip of two weeks or longer that our family has taken since February, so I’ve developed some mad packing skills this year.
Here are a few of my favorite ninja packing hacks to maximize style while saving on space:
Start with your Must Haves
If your travel plans include a big event, start with what you need for that. If you’re also packing for a long stretch, consider that separates are most efficient, even for dressy occasions.
I chose an over the top pleated maxi skirt & festive sweater for our main Christmas Celebration, and a shimmering skirt with a asymmetrical black Givenchy top for New Year’s Eve. It seemed appropriate to welcome 2016 in two of my favorite #thriftfinds of 2015!
Narrow in on Shoes
Shoes are the bulkiest items to work into a packing plan, so I usually pick 2-3 pairs of shoes that can be dressed up or down, and build my outfits around them. For this trip, two pairs of booties covered all the ground I needed!
Mix and Match
To save space but still keep my daily looks fresh on long trips, I concentrate my packing on items that will mix and match together. Start with a few fave jeans & tops, then add in pieces to mix them up into new outfits. Don’t forget to throw some skirts in the mix, and bold prints work nicely too (except when you accidentally pack almost exclusively bold prints, and then have to take #fearlesspatternmixing to a whole new level, aka #reallife on our 6 week stay in LA last spring…)
Bring the Bling
If you know me, you know I’m all for sparkles for any occasion, including a trip to the grocery store. When I travel, I rely heavily on my accessories, especially the ones that shine. They easily add style to otherwise simple separates, and can also dress up more casual garments for any special occasions that pop up.
